Learning Support at Killester College is facilitated by the Learning Support Coordinator in collaboration with SDLs, Homeroom and subject teachers and Learning Support Assistants. This team of teachers aims to support all students to reach their learning potential, therefore a diverse range of needs across the school are catered for.
Students who need support in their learning may be identified on transition from primary/previous school, by their subject teachers or at the request of parents. An Individual Education Plan (IEP) is then devised to best support the student.
Communication with parents through Support Group Meetings occurs regularly. This Support Group consists of the Learning Support Co- ordinator, SDL, a key teacher, Careers Coordinator and where necessary, external specialists. The student’s IEP is discussed, progress monitored and future goals established.
Individualised support is given to each student, this could include: in class assistance from Learning Support Assistants and specialised support classes.
Killester works with many outside agencies to support the students’ needs. These include Catholic Education Melbourne Learning Consultants, Visiting Teacher Service, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and others as necessary.
Our Learning Support program focusses on developing each student individually in a caring and supportive environment.
